  • Friends of Midwives in Connecticut is a non-profit organization committed to choices in childbirth. It is the position of Friends of Midwives that midwifery care - which is the standard for high quality maternity care in those countries with the lowest infant mortality rates - should be available to all women, whether they choose to birth in a hospital, birthing center or at home. Friends of Midwives seeks to educate families, health care providers and policy makers about the benefits of midwifery model of care, to assure the continued availability of both independent midwifery care and certified nurse midwifery throughout the state, and to increase and improve access to midwives for all Connecticut families. Friends of Midwives is a consumer advocacy group, consisting primarily of families who have been fortunate enough to have had midwifery care in pregnancy and birth and who feel strongly that choices in childbirth must be available to all families.

  • Massachusetts Friends of Midwives is a non-profit, politically aware organization seeking to promote and protect the right of independent and nurse-midwives to practice their profession. We are an educational organization whose goal is to enlighten the public about childbirth options and about the role of midwifery in modern-day health care. We seek to enable every family to have its children born safely in a manner consistent with that family's unique character and needs. In addition to this sixth edition of the Birthing Resources Directory, MFOM has publishes a newsletter, Friends of Midwives Report. Our current projects include: a resource library of videotapes, telephone information and referral services, a speaker's bureau, and active schedule of lectures, conferences and locally-based information events about childbirth in the US and throughout the world.

  • Georgia Friends of Midwives is a consumer group concerned with issues surrounding the problem of very limited birthing choices in our state. GFOM was formed in 1990 in response to legal and political challenges to Georgia's midwifery community. We advocate the preservation of safe, accessible and affordable childbirth alternatives as exemplified by the Midwifery Model of Care, including midwife-attended birth at home and in birth centers.
